Fasting! Instead of focusing on counting calories and adhering to a strict diet, I primarily focus on intermittent fasting during the week.
I don’t eat or drink any beverages apart from water (yes, including alcohol) after about 7/8 pm. My next actual meal won’t be until about 1-2pm. I usually do this 5-6 days/week. I give myself a day or two (usually on weekends) to break this cycle. This is typically when I’ll have a drink or two.
For many people, skipping breakfast seems scary.
But intermittent fasting has so many benefits:
It can increase metabolism, helping you lose weight.
It can reduce insulin resistance. It can reduce oxidative stress and inflammation.
Can improve brain function and mental concentration.
Can provide an increase in energy (no more sugar crashes).
Can activate autophagy where the body removes old cells and replaces them with healthy new ones.
Can lower blood pressure and cholesterol.
Can significantly increase Human Growth Hormones (HGH).
And more!
What about coffee? Do you have anything before your first meal?
I drink Bulletproof Coffee most mornings. I’ll post separately about that tomorrow.
I also supplement with exogenous ketones. When your body no longer has glucose to use as fuel, your liver will start to break down fat into ketones. Drinking a ketone supplement helps boosts my body’s natural ketone production, making it easier to get through the fast.
I also do a longer 3-4 day, water only fast about every 4 months. I use it as a way to fully detoxify my body and give myself a reset. The first day or so is tough, but once my body is in ketosis, its an amazing feeling! You get all the same benefits listed above, but on a greater scale.
What about a keto diet? I have done it, but I have found that it doesn’t work well for me. Not only do I not like to count calories and protein amounts, but I don’t like seafood and am allergic to dairy.
Instead, I try to focus on a low carb, high fat diet (LCHF), though I’m not super strict about it.
What experience do you have with fasting?
